The crack of dawn on Boxing Day saw Barbadian party-goers descend upon Sandalwood Estate in a sea of white, as ICE Events 246 executed their most spectacular and longest-running party to date. The ICE All-White Breakfast Party: ICY Elegance not only lived up to its name but exceeded all expectations, setting a new standard for entertainment during the festive season. A massive crowd flocked to the picturesque Sandalwood Estate, Hothersal Turning, St Michael to experience what has become a hallmark event on the Yuletide calendar. The event kicked off at the crack of dawn with DJ Ramon G setting the mood at 6 a.m., and it didn’t let up until the last track dropped just after 2 p.m., making it the longest and most vibrant ICE event to date. Patrons were treated to eight hours of nonstop music, seamlessly transitioning between a stellar lineup of DJs and local favourite live performances. The morning began with a breezy and cool atmosphere that complemented the crisp white ensembles of attendees, but as the day heated up, so did the energy. Hosts Shadae and Dawnisha kept the crowd engaged with their infectious banter. The DJs included big names such as Bubbles & Evolution, Niqo Vybz & Gunner and Hutchy & Sizz — had the crowd dancing from sunrise to the afternoon sun, showcasing the versatility of ICE’s entertainment mix. For the first time, the ICE party crowd enjoyed the skills of the man voted as the island’s “most popular DJ”, Surf Rat, accompanied by Menace. They did not disappoint as they took the party vibe to another level. Along with the branded cups and fans, another first was complimentary ICE-branded temporary tattoos for patrons who opted for them. Beyond the music, the event maintained its reputation for offering value. Patrons enjoyed premium bar services, mouthwatering breakfast options, and elegant cocktail areas. Vendors like Trident Cigars and Argyle Hookahs added to the luxury experience, making it a true VIP affair. “This year, we really wanted to go above and beyond to deliver an even more memorable experience,” said co-organiser Nathan Walters. “With a bigger crowd, incredible performances, and that unique ICE vibe, I think we accomplished just that. The energy was unmatched, and it’s clear that ICE is the Boxing Day event people look forward to year after year.” As patrons shared photos and videos on social media, the hashtag #ICEAllWhite trended throughout the day, showcasing the stylish crowd and highlighting why ICE is hailed as the premier Boxing Day event in Barbados. For those already marking their calendars, the next ICE instalment is set for Crop Over Thursday, July 31. If Boxing Day was any indication, ICE Events 246 is poised to deliver another epic experience. (IMC)It's time for the holidays, which means robust family conversations and seemingly never-ending courses of food. But for the more tech-savvy among us, the journey home could also mean we'll be called on to provide a backlog of tech support to parents, grandparents and other family members. And with generative AI being used to supercharge some major cyber scams this year, it's also a good time to teach and not just fix. Here are some tips on how to manage your tech encounters this holiday season: Whether it's Windows, macOS, iOS or Android, simply keeping your operating system and apps up-to-date will help protect your family's computers and devices against a surprising number of security threats, such as malware, viruses and exploits. Most operating systems, especially those for mobile devices and their app stores, typically have auto-updates turned on by default. Be sure to double-check the device to make sure it has enough storage space to carry out the update. (More on this below.) Keeping apps updated may also reduce the number of "Why isn't this app working?" type of questions from your relatives. Chances are someone in your family is going to have a completely full mobile device. So full, in fact, that they can no longer update their phone or tablet without having to purge something first. There are many approaches to freeing up space. Here are a few you can easily take without having to triage data or apps. According to some admittedly unscientific studies, the average person has hundreds of passwords. That's a lot to remember. So as you help your relatives reset some of theirs, you may be tempted to recycle some to keep things simple for them. But that's one of the bad password habits that cybersecurity experts warn against. Instead, try introducing your forgetful family member to a password manager. They're useful tools for simplifying and keeping track of logins. And if you want to impress a more tech-savvy cousin or auntie, you could suggest switching to a more secure digital authentication method: passkeys. As scammers find new ways to steal money and personal information, you and your family should be more vigilant about who to trust. Artificial intelligence and other technologies are giving bad actors craftier tools to work with online. A quick way to remember what to do when you think you're getting scammed is to think about the three S's, said Alissa Abdullah, also known as Dr. Jay, Mastercard's deputy chief security officer "Stay suspicious, stop for a second (and think about it) and stay protected," she said. Simply being aware of typical scams can help, experts say. Robocalls frequently target vulnerable individuals like seniors, people with disabilities, and people with debt. So-called romance scams target lonely and isolated individuals. Quiz scams target those who spend a lot of time on social media. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Former Temple basketball standout Hysier Miller sat for a long interview with the NCAA as it looked into concerns about unusual gambling activity, his lawyer said Friday amid reports a federal probe is now under way. “Hysier Miller fully cooperated with the NCAA’s investigation. He sat for a five-hour interview and answered every question the NCAA asked. He also produced every document the NCAA requested,” lawyer Jason Bologna said in a statement. “Hysier did these things because he wanted to play basketball this season, and he is devastated that he cannot.” Miller, a three-year starter from South Philadelphia, transferred to Virginia Tech this spring. However, the Hokies released him last month due to what the program called “circumstances prior to his enrollment at Virginia Tech.” Bologna declined to confirm that a federal investigation had been opened, as did spokespeople for both the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia. ESPN, citing unnamed sources, reported Thursday that authorities were investigating whether Miller bet on games he played in at Temple, and whether he adjusted his performance accordingly. “Hysier Miller has overcome more adversity in his 22 years than most people face in their lifetime. He will meet and overcome whatever obstacles lay ahead,” Bologna said. Miller scored eight points — about half his season average of 15.9 — in a 100-72 loss to UAB on March 7 that was later flagged for unusual betting activity. Temple said it has been aware of those allegations since they became public in March, and has been cooperative. “We have been fully responsive and cooperative with the NCAA since the moment we learned of the investigation,” Temple President John Fry said in a letter Thursday to the school community. However, Fry said Temple had not received any requests for information from state or federal law enforcement agencies. He vowed to cooperate fully if they did. Winnipeg Jets Game Days On Winnipeg Jets game days, hockey writers Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe send news, notes and quotes from the morning skate, as well as injury updates and lineup decisions. Arrives a few hours prior to puck drop. “Coaches, student-athletes and staff members receive mandatory training on NCAA rules and regulations, including prohibitions on involvement in sports wagering,” Fry said in the letter. The same week the Temple-UAB game raised concerns, Loyola (Maryland) said it had removed a person from its basketball program after it became aware of a gambling violation. Temple played UAB again on March 17, losing 85-69 in the finals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. League spokesman Tom Fenstermaker also declined comment on Friday. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here.
