Efforts to reduce the nation’s persistently high maternal mortality rates involve state panels of experts that investigate and learn from each mother’s death. The panels — called maternal mortality review committees — usually work quietly out of the public eye, but that’s not been the case recently in three states with strict abortion laws. Georgia dismissed all members of its committee in November after information about deaths being reviewed leaked to the news organization ProPublica. Days later, The Washington Post reported that Texas’ committee won’t review cases from 2022 and 2023, the first two years after the state banned nearly all abortions. In Idaho, the state let its panel disband in 2023 only to reinstate it this year. “They’ve become more of a lightning rod than they were before,” said epidemiologist Michael Kramer, director of the Center for Rural Health and Health Disparities at Mercer University in Georgia. Here’s what these committees do and what might happen next: “Maternal mortality review committees are important because they are the most comprehensive source of information about maternal mortality that we have,” said David Goodman, who leads the maternal mortality prevention team at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The panels review deaths that occur during pregnancy or within a year after it ends, whether related to the pregnancy or not. Causes of death can range from hemorrhage during childbirth to drug overdoses to traffic accidents. The goal, Kramer said, is to examine maternal deaths and help “decide what we can do about them.” All states, a few cities and Puerto Rico have these committees. Their membership varies and may include OB-GYNs, maternal-fetal medicine doctors, nurses, midwives, mental and public health experts and members of patient advocacy groups. Most have representatives from several areas of expertise, which the CDC recommends. How members are selected also varies; people may apply, submit letters of interest or be invited to serve. The selection shouldn’t be politically motivated, Kramer said, because “if there’s a systematic exclusion of certain data or certain perspectives” it’s difficult to truly understand what’s happening. The panels work with state vital statistics offices and epidemiologists to identify deaths associated with pregnancy by examining death certificates and looking for a pregnancy checkbox or a related cause of death. They also may search for links to birth and fetal death records, or delve into hospital discharge data, media reports and obituaries. Once they identify cases, they collect as much information as possible, such as prenatal care records, hospital and social service records, autopsy reports and interviews with family members. Professional “abstractors” distill all this into case narratives, which committee members pore over. Most use a standardized review process developed by the CDC — and all panels can get help and guidance from the agency. They consider questions such as: Was the death pregnancy- related? What was the underlying cause? Was it preventable? What factors contributed? States generally have privacy rules that protect committee members and people who provide information on the deaths. The groups then issue public reports that don’t name mothers or hospitals but include overall findings, trends and recommendations. Some come out a couple of years or more after the deaths. Across the nation in 2023, Goodman said, 151 recommendations from those reports were implemented by communities, hospitals, medical professionals and policymakers. Georgia will rebuild its committee through a new application process, the state public health commissioner said. Texas’ committee has been reviewing 2021 deaths and will start on 2024 cases at its next meeting, Texas Department of State Health Services spokesperson Lara Anton said. “Reviewing cases is a lengthy process and legislators have asked for more recent data. Starting the next review cycle with 2024 cases will allow us to provide that in the next report,” Anton said, adding that maternal and child health epidemiologists will continue to analyze and publish data for 2022 and 2023. In Idaho, the reconstituted review committee now falls under the state board of medicine, which licenses doctors, instead of the state’s health and welfare department. It will operate like it always has, said Bob McLaughlin, spokesperson for the medical board. Members met for the first time in November and plan to issue a report by Jan. 31. Because the legislature wanted the most up-to-date information, McLaughlin said the first report will cover only 2023 cases, and the group will review 2022 deaths next.Esco Technologies director Valdez sells $349,049 in stockNone

( MENAFN - GetNews) When it comes to Parkinson disease, many people think of Parkinson syndrome. In life, many people who do not have professional medical knowledge cannot clearly distinguish between these two diseases, and even confuse or completely equate them in many cases. .So what kind of disease is Parkinsonism and what are the specific effects it has on people?Today we will learn about it through a case. Aunt Li is 68 years old this year. Seven years ago, there was no obvious cause for involuntary shaking of the lower left limb, which was a static tremor. She visited a hospital without a clear diagnosis and the drug treatment was ineffective half a year, it developed to the upper left limb and there was also a static tremor, slow movement, a slight stiffness of the limbs, and a loss of smell Li, who has sought medical treatment for many times, developed involuntary shaking and stiffness of her limbs two years ago, and her movement was slow (difficult to start and slow to turn around). The symptoms were mainly on the left side. For further treatment, he came to our hospital a joint diagnosis by several experts in our hospital, it was found that Aunt Li is not a simple Parkinsonism, but belongs to Parkinsonism syndrome. There is an essential difference between the two also includes other diseases caused by other reasons that are similar to the symptoms of Parkinsonism fully communicating with Aunt Li herself and her family, it was decided that Professor Tian Zengmin would perform robotic stereotactic surgery for her to solve the problem of shaking and slow movement of the left limb difference between Parkinsonism and Parkinsonism1 Different age of onsetParkinsonism can occur in any age group, and the youngest patient with Parkinsonism that our hospital has ever treated is only 26 years old's disease usually develops in middle-aged and elderly people. In recent years, with the increase of social pressure, it has also shown a trend of youth.2 Different clinical manifestationsClinically, in addition to the same manifestations as Parkinson's disease such as slow movement, sluggish expression, increased muscle tone, tremor, etc., Parkinson's syndrome often has the same manifestations left over from the original onset. The 26-year-old juvenile patient with Parkinson's syndrome mentioned earlier is also accompanied by hereditary spastic paraplegia imaging manifestations of Parkinson's disease are not characteristic, while Parkinson's syndrome often has corresponding changes or characteristic changes.3The etiology and pathogenesis are different pathological changes of Parkinson's disease are mainly due to the degeneration of dopamine neurons in the melanoplasm of the midbrain, so that they cannot produce enough dopamine and become ill the other hand, Parkinson's syndrome is a syndrome of known etiology. The pathological changes in the brain are caused by lesions of the brain, the melanoplasm and striatum pathways of the midbrain, and degeneration of dopamine neurons, resulting in insufficient production of dopamine or inability to transmit dopamine to maintain normal nerve function. Caused.4 Different treatments treatment of Parkinsonism is not the same as the treatment of Parkinsonism. Early drug treatment has a better effect on Parkinsonism, but the effect on Parkinsonism is poor introduction. Robotic stereotactic surgery 2019, Nuolai International Medical Center introduced robot-assisted frameless brain stereotactic surgery. With the help of medical image scanning, three-dimensional visualization, multi-modal image fusion and other technologies, the brain lesion area can be accurately found planning the puncture path to accurately reach the surgical target, and solving the lesion problem through thermal coagulation, biological therapy, etc., brain diseases can be fundamentally treated, and the effect is very mature and successful advantage with the trauma caused by traditional craniotomy, frameless brain stereotactic surgery has the advantages of scientific and technological innovation in four aspects: minimally invasive, accurate, efficient and safe entire operation takes only 30 minutes, the wound is only 2-3 mm, and the positioning accuracy reaches 1 mm. After 2-3 days of postoperative observation, you can be discharged from the hospital risk rate of surgery such as infection and bleeding is much lower than 1%, and it has obvious effects on nearly 100 kinds of extranasal diseases such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy, cerebral hemorrhage, and Parkinsonism. After the operation, combined with a series of symptomatic treatments such as drugs and rehabilitation, Aunt Li's upper left limb trembling, stiffness and other symptoms were significantly reduced, and walking was more flexible than before. The patient and his family were very satisfied with the treatment effect. Gisele Bündchen and ex Tom Brady are celebrating Vivian Brady reaching the endzone of another year. The pregnant supermodel and former New England Patriots quarterback—who divorced in 2022 following 13 years of marriage—rang in their daughter's 12th birthday with adorable tributes on social media. For Tom's part, the NFL Hall of Famer—who also shares son Benjamin Brady , 14, with Gisele, as well as son Jack Brady , 17, with ex Bridget Moynahan —gave a special shout to his "forever baby girl" alongside a carousel of images, including one snap of the two posing together in front of the Eiffel Tower at the 2024 Olympics . "Watching you grow and chase after your dreams are the proudest moments of my life," Tom continued in his Dec. 5 Instagram post . "Your love, compassion, and joy fill up every room that you’re in, and will always make your daddy smile. You light up my life!" He added, "Here’s to a great day filled with all the laughter and love that you deserve. I love you infinity x infinity!!!" And Gisele—who is currently expecting a baby with boyfriend Joaquim Valente —paid tribute with her own series of photos showing her and Vivian basking in the sun on the beach, riding horses and enjoying a sweet embrace at sunset. Atop the trio of Dec. 5 Instagram Stories, she wrote, "Happy birthday to my ray of sunshine." "You are the best daughter a mom could ever ask for," the 44-year-old continued, "and I'm so blessed to be your mama!" Of course, her daughter isn't the only one hitting new milestones in the family. Gisele recently showed off her bumpin' baby belly while hitting the beach with Joaquim amid their babymoon in Costa Rica . And as for how Gisele and Tom feel about their kids coming into their own? As long as they maintain their family's values, Tom's happy to watch them gain more independence. "I'm trying to raise them—we all are, myself and their mom—in a very loving way toward one another," Tom told E! News last year, "to be very kind, to be empathetic and to have great perspective." For more heartwarming moments between Tom and his kids, read on... Gisele Bündchen shared this family photo on Instagram on Tom Brady 's son Jack 's 14th birthday, writing, "Happy birthday Jack! We are all so lucky to have you in our lives. Thank you for being the best big brother in the world. We love you soooo much!" While wearing his Christopher Cloos x Brady sunglasses, Tom celebrates his Super Bowl win with daughter Vivian during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers boat parade. After winning his seventh Super Bowl, the Tampa Bay quarterback celebrated with his daughter Vivian. Tom snuggled with his kids John "Jack" Moynahan (with ex Bridget Moynahan ), Vivian and Benjamin in this adorable photo snapped by Gisele on Father's Day. Brady went from quarterback to coach with his son on the beach, writing on Instagram that he's "#dadsfavoriteworkoutpartner." Gisele shared this adorable photo on Instagram of Tom giving his son a kiss on the forehead. The whole Brady-bünch posed together at the Mercedes-Benz in Atlanta ahead of the Super Bowl LIII, which the Patriots later won . Tom lurked as Pennywise the Dancing Clown in a window behind his family as they celebrate Halloween in 2018. As Tom geared up for another football season, he stopped to give his daughter a little love and clearly this one has her dad's full attention. In July 2018, the Brady bunch headed out of town for a family vacation and they couldn't look any happier on their horseback riding adventure. Tom celebrated Father's Day with a family dinner and lots of silly photos with his younger son, Ben. There's nothing sweeter than seeing the greatest quarterback of all time (he has seven Super Bowl rings) get smothered in love by his three kids. Even though it was springtime, Tom bundled up with Ben for a fun day outside...complete with a little training. Tom Brady as the Easter bunny? Who would've guessed?! The super sweet family was all smiles during one of Brady's episodes of Tom vs. Time . After playing in another Super Bowl, Tom took a little break with his family, complete with burger time and selfies. Even though the Patriots lost the 2018 Super Bowl, Tom had his support squad ready and waiting to cheer him up. Ahead of Super Bowl LII, the Patriots QB posed for pictures with his whole family including Gisele and oldest son Jack, second-born Ben, and daughter Vivian. The New England Patriots quarterback showed his second oldest son a little love on his birthday in December of 2017, writing , "Happy Birthday to the sweetest 8 year old boy a mom and dad could ever ask for! So filled with love and joy! We are so proud of you Benny! And you shine a light that brightens our lives every day! We love you." Vivian was the ultimate sous chef as her dad made her biscuits before Thanksgiving and really, what can't Brady do? The dynamic duo of Tom and Ben spent a November day swinging in a hammock together and we really wish we had some R&R like this in our near future. Leave it to Tom to teach his son more than just football. The Brady crew rolled around in the grass and enjoyed spending time together in June 2017 and it really does look like they are having a blast. Who says you're too old to make funny faces? When the Patriots headed back to Boston for their parade celebration after their 2017 Super Bowl win, Tom brought Ben along for the ride making him the coolest dad around. Winning the Super Bowl in 2017 was great, but getting to celebrate with your daughter on the field is priceless. In 2017, Vivian gave her dad a big good luck kiss before he headed out for a game. Seriously, these two are so stinking cute. Tom's fans span near and far, but his biggest fans are his three kids and their "Brady" jerseys continually make us love them even more as a unit. Decorating the Christmas tree is twice as fun when you have your precious daughter helping you out...especially when she's dressed as a fairy! The football player loves to spend his off time with his adorable kiddos at the beach and we totally approve.
