COLUMBUS, Ohio – A fight broke out at midfield after Michigan stunned No. 2 Ohio State 13-10 on Saturday as Wolverines players attempted to plant their flag and were met by Buckeyes who confronted them. Police had to use pepper spray to break up the players, who threw punches and shoves in the melee that overshadowed the rivalry game. Recommended Videos Ohio State police said in a statement “multiple officers representing Ohio and Michigan deployed pepper spray.” Ohio State police will investigate the fight, according to the statement. After the Ohio State players confronted their bitter rivals at midfield, defensive end Jack Sawyer grabbed the top of the Wolverines' flag and ripped it off the pole as the brawl moved toward the Michigan bench. Eventually, police officers rushed into the ugly scene. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said he understood the actions of his players. “There are some prideful guys on our team who weren't going to sit back and let that happen,” Day said. The two Ohio State players made available after the game brushed off questions about it. Michigan running back Kalel Mullings, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown, didn't like how the Buckeyes players involved themselves in the Wolverines' postgame celebration. He called it “classless.” “For such a great game, you hate to see stuff like that after the game," he said in an on-field interview with Fox Sports. “It’s just bad for the sport, bad for college football. But at the end of the day, you know some people got to — they got to learn how to lose, man. ... We had 60 minutes, we had four quarters, to do all that fighting.” Michigan coach Sherrone Moore said everybody needs to do better. “So much emotions on both sides," he said. "Rivalry games get heated, especially this one. It’s the biggest one in the country, so we got to handle that better.” ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Assembly Election Results Live Updates Maharashtra Election Results Jharkhand Election Results Bypoll Election Results The same holds true now. The BJP-led Mahayuti is leading on 219 seats, well past the majority mark of 145 for total 288 seats in Maharashtra assembly. The BJP is emerging as the single-largest party by far: it's leading on 125 seats, followed by Shiv Sena on 58 and NCP on 36. Behind the BJP's impending victory are a range of factors including allies, the RSS and, of course, the Delhi leadership, the credit will go to Fadnavis since he was leading the BJP into polls and was the chief strategist. The BJP's superlative performance in the state makes Fadnavis the strongest contender for the top job. An old video of Fadnavis has come up in which he is speaking in the assembly after becoming the deputy chief minister. "Mera paani utarta dekh mere kinare pe ghar mat basa lena. Main samandar hun laut kar wapis aaunga (don't build a house on my shore after seeing my water receding. I am an ocean, I will come back0," he said in the video. The return of Deva Bhau The return of Deva Bhai, as Fadnavis is known popularly in the state, seems highly possible because due to a strong performance by allies Shiv Sena and the NCP, the BJP will be able to form the government with the support of just one of the two allies. This will erode the bargaining power of both the allies. In such a scenario, Fadnavis is the strongest contender for the top post. Though Fadnavis hasn't laid his claim to the top post, his mother Sarita Fadnavis is confident he will be the next chief minister. "Of course, he will become the chief minister. There is absolutely no doubt on this. 100% he will become the chief minsiter. As a mother, it is a moment of happiness and a big day for me as my son has become a big leader of the state. He worked hard 24X7 for this victory," Sarita Fadnavis has said. What also works in favour of Fadnavis is the backing of the RSS for his candidature. Just hours after voting for assembly polls had concluded, Fadnavis had met RSS head Mohan Bhagwat. Though he dismissed any political connotations to his visit, his approximately 15-minute meeting with the RSS chief triggered curiosity among political analysts with many perceiving it as an attempt to get Sangh's endorsement for the top post. However, incumbent chief minister Eknath Shinde, who remains a strong contender for the top job after leading his party Shiv Sena to an impressive performance as well as steering the government's pre-poll push, has said there was no pre-poll agreement to suggest that the party with maximum number of seats will get the chief minister's post. When asked about the claims of some BJP leaders citing the party's numbers, Shinde said " We have had no such agreement. Let the final results come in after which three senior leaders of the three parties will sit together and take a decision together, in the same way as we fought elections." The NCP, which is the third partner of the ruling Mahayuti, had also pitched for Ajit Pawar as the next chief minister in the run up to the elections. But the nub of the situation is that neither Shiv Sena nor the NCP has the numbers to get the top post despite good performance by each. The BJP's stellar win will give it most of the chips, yet they can't be ignored. Senior BJP leaders Chandrakant Patil and Pravin Darekar have already voiced support for Fadnavis as the CM. A few months ago, there was speculation that Fadnavis will be appointed to the top post of the BJP replacing JP Nadda, who is now a Union minister in the third term of the Narendra Modi government. However, Fadnavis had dismissed the speculation. Fadnavis said, "These talks have been started by the media and are restricted to the media alone." How Fadnavis shot to the top of Maharashtra politics Fadnavis is now known for his political craftsmanship and many think he is second only to Amit Shah in the party in managing elections. 54-year-old Fadnavis belongs to a political and ideological family but has seen a lot of the rough and tumble of grassroots politics. A Deshastha Brahmin from Chandrapur in Vidarbha, Devendra’s aunt, Shobha Fadnavis, was a former minister and represented the Mul constituency for a long time. At Dharampeth in Nagpur, his family, comprising his wife Amruta, mother Sarita and daughter Divija, lives in a modest two-storeyed house that also houses his office. Right opposite his house is a playground named after his father Gangadharrao, a prominent RSS leader who later became a Jan Sangh member in the state legislative council. As a child Devendra is said to have refused to go to a certain Ïndira Convent because it had the name of a leader who had jailed his father during the Emergency. Devendra lost his father when he was 17. Devendra’s political career started in the early nineties, when he joined the BJP as a ward president of its youth wing. He became the youngest corporator of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation at the age of 21 and the second youngest elected mayor in 1997, at the age of 27. Fadnavis is said to have brought to the limelight by Gopinath Munde who saw him as a promising leader. He replaced Nitin Gadkari’s aide, Sudhir Munganthiwar as the BJP State president in 2013 and became the chief minister in 2013. Despite rumours of disagreements between him and Gadkari, Fadnavis is said to share a good equation with the union minister. In 2019, Fadnavis formed a government with the help of Ajit Pawar of NCP which lasted only for a few days. In 2022, Fadnavis had to accept the post of Deputy CM when Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena allied with the BJP and Shinde became the CM. Becoming the Deputy CM after having been the CM was seen as a demotion for Fadnavis. That's when Fadnavis had vowed to return to the top. When the Lufkin Panthers got the opportunity to host the Pineywoods Hoopfest, one of the biggest positives was bringing some big-time talent to deep East Texas. That proved to be a learning experience last year when the top competition led to two losses. This time around, the Panthers learned their lessons while winning. Austin Brown scored 21 points and put the game away with six straight fourth-quarter free throws and the Panthers fought their way to a 72-58 win over the 6A Converse Judson Rockets Tuesday afternoon. Brown had plenty of help in a team effort in a game the Panthers never trailed. B.J. Thomas scored 10 of his 15 points after the break, JaKevion Sanders had 14 and Brycen Skinner added 10. That allowed the Panthers to finish the Hoopfest 2-0 after Monday night’s win over Lake Travis. Elijah Favela led Converse Judson with 23 points while Jaylen Crittendon had 12. The Panthers set the tone for the afternoon with a game-opening 14-2 run. C.J. Burse got a breakaway dunk in the opening seconds before Sanders nailed a trey. After Judson’s Kenyon Smith scored on a tip-in, Brown hit a layup and two free throws and Sanders had a three-point play and a steal and layup to make it 14-2. The Rockets didn’t make things easy for Lufkin from there as they stayed within striking distance the entire afternoon. Three-pointers from Favela and Crittendon and a Gerald O’Neal basket cut the margin to six before Lufkin led 19-10 after the first eight minutes. That lead got cut to four points at 31-27 late in the second quarter on a Jordan Taylor trey. Lufkin answered with 3-pointers from Thomas and Marcellus Parks to up the margin back to double digits. The Panthers led 37-30 at halftime. The lead went back to double digits early in the second half when Sanders and Parks hit layups, but Judson didn’t go down easily, cutting the margin to 55-51 late in the third quarter. The Panthers led 60-53 headed into the final quarter. Things slowed down for both teams in the fourth quarter with Crittendon knocking down a triple that cut Lufkin’s lead to 64-58 with 3:28 remaining. That was the last time Judson scored. Brown iced the game from there with six straight free throws before Skinner got a steal and layup to close it out. Other Lufkin scorers were Parks (5), JaVarius White (4) and Tripp McManus (1). GM to stop funding development of Cruise robotaxisA Queens couple ran a massive mob-style theft ring targeting major chains such as Macy’s and Sephora and swiping luxury brands to rake in millions of dollars, officials said Tuesday. Sticky-fingered husband and wife Cristopher Guzman, 35, and Yvelisse Guzman Batista, 29, earned themselves the dubious distinction of being the first criminals charged under a new state law aimed at helping to take out such widespread online schemes, authorities said. “ Listen, this is going to be real simple,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said at a press conference touting the new law — which criminalizes the “fostering the sale of stolen goods,’’ particularly using the Web and middlemen. “ We’ve had enough with criminals preying on our citizens,” Hochul said. “We are sick and tired of our citizens feeling they’re vulnerable to — whether it’s random crimes on the streets or whether it’s these sophisticated organized crime rings. And we are coming after you .” Guzman and Batista allegedly sat atop what Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz called a “large-scale retail theft and fencing operation” built upon a thieves’ guild that delivered them stolen high-end makeup, perfume, beauty products, designer clothing and accessories from up and down the East Coast. The Guzmans allegedly ordered crews to jack certain items from stores, then sold the goods out of their Kew Gardens home or a storefront in the Dominican Republic under the name Yvelissa Fashion, LLC, Katz said in a statement. Other times, the couple paid off truck drivers a la the mob to bring them loads of products right from the manufacturers’ warehouses instead of to retailers such as Sephora and Ulta Beauty, where they were supposed to go, Katz said. “The defendants ran a widespread fencing operation that offered stolen merchandise for sale far below retail prices,” Katz said, adding that the Guzmans made more than $2 million in their illicit endeavor. “These arrests once again prove that consumers should be extremely careful about buying items on social media or from unfamiliar vendors,” she said. “As we approach the holiday season, take great care to know the genesis of the products you are buying.” Guzman and Batista — along with Batista’s mom, Rosa Rodriguez Santana, 59; and Johanny Almonte Reyes, 33, of Fresh Meadow, Queens — were slapped with a litany of charges, including criminal possession of stolen property, conspiracy, attempted criminal possession of stolen property and fostering the sale of stolen goods. Another alleged accomplice, 29-year-old Tiffany Leon Fuentes of Ozone Park, of Queens was hit with similar charges. At the height of the ring’s operation, the defendants were pulling in $50,000 in stolen goods every week, Katz said. The crooks allegedly shared their profits with the street crews, handing them about 10% to 15% of each heist’s retail value. The illicit goods were peddled through online ads or out of a brick-and-mortar boutique in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Authorities latched onto the ring after the New York State Police infiltrated it, then brought the case to the Queens DA’s office, a law-enforcement source told The Post. State and federal investigators slowly closed in, surveilling the Guzmans’ Kew Gardens home and an apartment in Fresh Meadows, Katz said. Undercovers sold three different loads of purportedly stolen goods to the couple, which included beauty products and perfume worth about $23,000, authorities said. In return, the suspects gave them about 15% of the retail value, or nearly $3,800, officials said. The Guzmans allegedly then requested the agents steal certain in-demand brands for them to sell. Another undercover operative bought a pricey perfume from the Guzmans’ product-laden basement, which was fully stocked with shelves of merchandise, the DA said. Fuentes, one of the alleged accomplices, was caught on video stealing makeup and cosmetics from Ulta stores in Chester, NJ, and Towson, Md., and bringing them to the Guzmans’ fencing spot, officials said. Earlier this year, shipments of Sol de Janeiro products worth nearly $800,000 miraculously disappeared — and investigators say the Guzmans paid to have the drivers bring them right to them. Bank records showed that the Guzmans made hundreds of payments to scores of “vendedoras” — the Spanish word for “sellers” — from January 2022 to September 2024 worth about $230,000, Katz said. The couple allegedly shipped stolen merchandise to the Dominican Republic in big, blue, plastic barrels — some of which were seized by Homeland Security agents earlier this month. When authorities raided the Guzmans’ home, the Fresh Meadows apartment and another spot in Briarwood in Queens on Friday, they found a cornucopia of contraband — including 50,000 retail products worth more than $1 million from companies such as Maybelline, Fenty, Dior, Yve Saint Laurent, Versace, Valentino, Prada, Zara, Anthropologie and Victoria’s Secret. They also seized a money counter, label maker, shipping barrels, ledgers and two polymer ghost-gun kits with parts of an unfinished firearm. The DA’s office said the defendants are scheduled to appear in court Jan. 15 — and face up to 25 years if convicted. -Additional reporting by Vaughn GoldenMichigan, Ohio State fight broken up with police pepper spray after Wolverines stun Buckeyes 13-10
Stitch Fix Announces First Quarter of Fiscal Year 2025 Financial ResultsLiverpool and Real Madrid combined XI: Reds dominate central defence, Mohamed Salah and Jude Bellingham are shoo-ins, but which Champions League-winning Anfield star misses out? The two giants meet in a repeat of the 2018 and 2022 finals - both won by Real Arne Slot's side lead Premier League by eight points and Real are 2nd in La Liga SOCCER A-Z: Listen now wherever you get your podcasts, or watch on YouTube. New episodes every Wednesday By SAM LAWLEY Published: 22:56 GMT, 26 November 2024 | Updated: 22:56 GMT, 26 November 2024 e-mail View comments Two Champions League giants collide on Wednesday night as Liverpool and Real Madrid face off in a mouthwatering group stage tie. The Anfield fixture is the kind of clash-of-the-titans encounter the competition's bosses would have dreamed of when they conjured up a new league format enabling Europe's finest to meet in the early weeks of the tournament. It is a repeat of both the 2018 and 2022 finals, which saw Los Blancos clinch their 13th and 14th titles, courtesy of a mesmerising second-half performance from Gareth Bale in the former and an opportunistic Vinicius Junior winner in the latter. The two sides meet in good form, with Arne Slot 's Reds unflappably racing to an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League , while Real have put humiliating losses to AC Milan and Barcelona behind them to win two on the trot. But which stars makes a combined XI of these two giants, who have lifted an eye-watering 21 European Cups between them, ahead of the huge match? Mail Sport makes the painstaking selections so you don't have to. Liverpool and Real Madrid meet in the Champions League in a repeat of the 2022 final The Reds are flying at the moment and lead the Premier League by a whopping eight points Real Madrid are just starting to build up some form themselves after a 3-0 win over Leganes Goalkeeper - Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) A fit Alisson would be the obvious choice after a stellar career at Anfield and a start to the season which saw him concede just three times in eight matches, but the Brazilian shot-stopper is facing a couple more weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. But former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is not a bad replacement. The towering Belgian has been beaten a respectable nine times in 13 games this campaign and has a save percentage of around 70 per cent so far. Like many in the Real side, this is not his first rodeo and he edges talented number one Caoimhin Kelleher thanks to his depths of experience, which includes an outstanding display in the 2022 final. Thibaut Courtois is picked on the depth of his experience, which includes winning in 2022 Right back - Federico Valverde (Real Madrid) Our team has something of a crisis on the right-hand side of defence, with Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold injured with a pulled hamstring and Los Blancos stalwart Dani Carvajal out for the season with a torn cruciate ligament. Enter the wildcard: Federico Valverde. The centre-midfielder produced a masterclass at full-back against Leganes on Sunday, scooping up the man of the match award thanks to a solid defensively display and a goal to boot. The tidy Uruguayan completed 94 per cent of his passes on the weekend and took 86 touches, which showed his heavy involvement from the right flank. With five goals already this season, the 26-year-old will provide a real threat as he bombs up the pitch but if Alexander-Arnold makes a miraculous recovery - a possibility given his involvement in training today - then his place is at risk. Federico Valverde was the best player on the pitch in an unusual right-back role on Sunday Centre back - Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) Something of a no-brainer at the heart of defence. Virgil van Dijk has been a mainstay at Anfield for years, lifting a Champions League trophy and a Premier League. Of his many qualities, the Dutchman's ability to win almost everything in the air is perhaps his most valuable, succeeding in more than three aerial duels per game in the Premier League this season. Confident on the ball, van Dijk can cut a defence open with a pinpoint long pass and has attempted a whopping 84 passes per match in the opening months. To top it all off, the 33-year-old Liverpool skipper also has an eye for goal, scoring twice already this season and 25 times in his Reds career. Virgil van Dijk is rarely beaten in the air and is a shoo-in for our all-star defence Centre back - Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool) Joining van Dijk at the back is his partner in crime Ibrahima Konate, who was proved an assured presence this season and become one of the first names on Slot's teamsheet. The Frenchman has looked good in the Champions League, scoring a header in an emphatic 3-1 win at Milan and shipping just one goal. Konate is also effective in the air, winning 82.4 per cent of his aerial duels this campaign, putting him in the top three per cent of centre-backs. He is also putting a run together for his country, playing 90 minutes in the last four Nations League matches and even captaining Les Bleus against Italy this month. Ibrahima Konate's assured displays have answered the question of who will partner van Dijk Left back - Fran Garcia (Real Madrid) It might not please Liverpool fans but flying Scotsman Andy Robertson has not been on the finest run of form this season, failing to provide a goal or assist in 16 matches. Fran Garcia's selection largely comes as a result of his Reds counterpart's subdued displays. While also drawing a blank this campaign, the Spaniard has looked a threat making more than six progressive passes per match and, in a very Spanish way, has completed a whopping 97 per cent of his passes. Garcia has also looked defensively astute as Real have bounced back from the 4-0 El Clasico debacle last month with two consecutive clean sheets. Fran Garcia has been solid at left-back this season and rarely misplaces a pass Centre midfielder- Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool) Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch has been one of the stories of the season after being largely frozen out by Jurgen Klopp following his arrival from Bayern Munich last year. The midfielder revealed that Slot called him to express his faith in him as soon as he assumed the Anfield hot seat and he has paid back his boss handsomely. A Rolls Royce of a player who also knows how to steal the ball back, Gravenberch has racked up more than 55 passes per match in the league this campaign and can spray it long or short. He also shields van Dijk and Konate excellently, winning a whopping 84 per cent of his battles in the air and will keep our side rock solid so the attacking stars can flourish. Ryan Gravenberch is one of the most improved stars this term with some dominant showings Centre midfielder - Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool) World-Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister has an eye for the big occasion after playing a vital role in Argentina's victory over France in Qatar two years ago. The midfielder joined Liverpool from Brighton shortly after and has impressed in a red shirt, putting in a host of impressive displays in his 64 appearances. His one goal this season came in the Champions League and saw him tuck home a fine Mohamed Salah cross to put his side a goal up. Another dependable figure in our XI, the 25-year-old scores particularly highly in the amount of blocks he has made and dribbles he has stopped, while Mac Allister has also won 2.34 tackles per game to add steel to the midfield. Alexis Mac Allister enjoys the big occasion and adds yet more solidity to our midfield Attacking midfielder - Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid) Now it's time for the attacking flair, starting with England talisman Jude Bellingham. The once-in-a-generation star is a shoo in for our squad, providing a passing range, dribbling skill and eye for a wondergoal that few in the world can. The 21-year-old's campaign has been frustratingly stunted by injury but he has showed glimpses of his old self with a goal in each of his last two matches. Bellingham made a big money switch from Dortmund to Los Blancos in 2023 for £94m and scored 23 times in a magical debut season which ended with him lifting the Champions League and La Liga. The jury is still out on what his best position is but in our team he has the freedom to make those driving runs into the box with the two Liverpool men sitting behind him, or alternatively dictate the play in the midfield with his unparalleled confidence on the ball. Arguably world football's biggest star, few look as good on the ball as Real's Jude Bellingham Right winger - Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) His future at Anfield may be uncertain, but Mohamed Salah's importance to Arne Slot's side certainly is not, with the Egyptian making an electric start to the campaign. The winger joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 for £37million, having spent two forgettable years at Chelsea, and has been the club's talisman ever since, scoring 223 goals in 367 matches and assisting a further 99. He gave a tiny reminder of how much the Reds depend on him with a brace against Southampton on Sunday which overturned a 2-1 deficit to seal three points and extend Liverpool's lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points. In 18 appearances this season he has 12 goals, 10 assists, four shots per game, nine touches in the opposition area per game and 3.42 dribbles into the opposition area per game. Simply sensational... good thing we don't need to negotiate his contract to get him into our side. Mohamed Salah has been there and done it all before, winning the Champions League in 2019 Striker - Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) One of the world's most valuable players, Kylian Mbappe moved to Real on a free in the summer in what was the worst kept transfer secret in football. The goal machine joined Los Blancos on the back of a fantastic spell at Paris Saint-Germain which saw him score 256 times in 308 games and provide 108 assists. Mbappe has 12 goals in the World Cup at the age of just 25, four of which have come across two finals, making him an odds-on favourite to overtake Miroslav Klose's record. His form has dipped somewhat with just the nine goals in 17 matches for Carlo Ancelotti's side but we're sure he will find the net in our dream team. How could you not include Kylian Mbappe? The Real star has already broken a litany of records Left winger - Luis Diaz (Liverpool) Completing our selection of megastars is Colombian winger Luis Diaz, who also offers the option to rotate with Kylian Mbappe and lead the line, much to the chagrin of any opposition defence. He was a late absentee for Liverpool's match against Southampton but the Reds managed to scrape past the bottom-placed side without their in-form wide man. Diaz has really kicked on this season, with nine goals in 17 including three in four in the Champions League and has looked unplayable at times thanks to his trickery and speed. The 27-year-old has also racked up an impressive 1.7 shots on target per match in the competition, and incredibly has scored with 60 per cent of his attempts. Luis Diaz completes our XI after a fine start to the term which has seen him terrorise defences Mail Sport took on the unenviable task of creating a Liverpool and Real Madrid combined XI Sofascore's XI shows changes in defence and midfield as Andy Robertson breaks into the team Sofascore's side Read More Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr slams 'crazy calendar' after being ruled out of Liverpool clash The stats experts at Sofascore have also taken on the unenviable task of picking the best XI of these two European giants and what they have churned up has its similarities to our attempt. They have opted for the same dynamic front three and also plumped for Courtois in goal but have selected slightly different defences and midfields to Mail Sport's. Sofascore prefer the safe bet of Robertson at left-back, clearly hoping he will turn in some of the performances which helped Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2019. Meanwhile, their midfield takes on a different feel with the more attacking Dominik Szoboszlai chosen instead of Mac Allister after his opener against Southampton on Sunday. NYC couple netted $2M in massive mob-style theft ring that targeted luxury brands: DATaoiseach Simon Harris said he also wanted to tell Nikita Hand, a hair colourist from Drimnagh, that her case had prompted an increase in women coming forward to ask for support. Ms Hand, who accused the sportsman of raping her in a Dublin hotel in December 2018, won her claim against him for damages in a civil case at the High Court in the Irish capital on Friday. The total amount of damages awarded to Ms Hand by the jury was 248,603.60 euro (£206,714.31). Mr McGregor said in a post on social media on Friday that he intends to appeal against the decision. That post has since been deleted. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Mr Harris said he told Ms Hand of the support she has from people across Ireland. “I spoke with Nikita today and I wanted to thank her for her incredible bravery and her courage,” he said. “I wanted to make sure that she knew how much solidarity and support there was across this country for her bravery. “I also wanted to make sure she knew of what the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre had said yesterday – that so many other women have now come forward in relation to their own experiences of sexual abuse as a result of Nikita’s bravery.” The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre said the case has had a “profound effect” on the people the charity supports, and that over the first 10 days of the High Court case, calls to its national helpline increased by almost 20%. It said that first-time callers increased by 50% compared to the same period last year, and were largely from people who had experienced sexual violence who were distressed and anxious from the details of case and the views people had to it. Mr Harris said: “I wanted to speak with her and I wanted to wish her and her daughter, Freya, all the very best night, and I was very grateful to talk with Nikita today. “Her bravery, her courage, her voice has made a real difference in a country in which we must continue to work to get to zero tolerance when it comes to domestic, sexual and gender-based violence. “I don’t want to say too much more, because conscious there could be further legal processes, but I absolutely want to commend Nikita for her bravery, for her courage, for using her voice.” Justice Minister Helen McEntee praised Ms Hand’s bravery and said she had shown “there is light at the end of the tunnel”. She said: “I just want to commend Nikita for her bravery, for her determination and the leadership that she has shown in what has been – I’ve no doubt – a very, very difficult time for her and indeed, for her family. She added: “Because of wonderful people like Nikita, I hope that it shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel, that there are supports available to people, and that there is justice at the end of the day.” Ms Hand said in a statement outside court on Friday that she hoped her case would remind victims of assault to keep “pushing forward for justice”. Describing the past six years as “a nightmare”, she said: “I want to show (my daughter) Freya and every other girl and boy that you can stand up for yourself if something happens to you, no matter who the person is, and justice will be served.” During the case, Ms Hand said she was “disappointed and upset” when the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) decided not to prosecute the case after she made a complaint to the Irish police. In a letter to her in August 2020, the DPP said there was “insufficient evidence” and there was not a reasonable prospect of conviction. Ms Hand asked the DPP to review the decision, saying she felt she was being treated differently because one of the suspects was famous. Asked about the DPP’s decision not to prosecute, Mr Harris and Ms McEntee stressed the importance of the DPP’s independence on whether to prosecute. “There are obviously structures in place where the DPP can meet a victim and can outline to them their reasons for not taking the case,” Mr Harris said. “But there’s also always an opportunity for the DPP in any situation – and I speak broadly in relation to this – to review a decision, to consider any new information that may come to light, and I don’t want to say anything that may ever cut across the ongoing work of the DPP.” Ms McEntee stressed that there should “never be any political interference” in the independence of the DPP’s decisions. “I have, since becoming minister, given priority to and enabled a new office within the DPP to open specifically focused on sexual offences, so that this issue can be given the focus and the priority that it needs,” she said.
MANCHESTER, England — Manchester City’s players were booed by their own fans Tuesday after blowing a three-goal lead against Feyenoord in the Champions League to extend their winless run to six games. Jeers rang around the Etihad Stadium after the final whistle of a dramatic 3-3 draw. After five-straight losses in all competitions, City looked to be cruising to victory after going three up inside 50 minutes. But Feyenoord mounted an improbable comeback and leveled the game in the 89th minute to leave the home crowd stunned. While the worst losing streak of Guardiola’s managerial career was brought to an end, his wait for a first win since Oct. 26 goes on. Erling Haaland had scored twice, with Ilkay Gundogan also on target to put City in control. But goals from Anis Hadj Moussa in the 75th, Santiago Gimenez in the 82nd and David Hancko in the 89th turned the game on its head. City’s players, including Bernardo Silva, Josko Gvardiol and Haaland looked visibly frustrated as they left the field to cheers of the delirious traveling Dutch fans in the away section of the stadium. City plays Premier League leader Liverpool on Sunday — defeat would leave it 11 points adrift of its title rival. Deion Sanders continues to be linked with an NFL move ahead of the 2025 season - where some interesting opportunities could present itself to the Pro Football Hall of Famer . Colorado's impressive 2024 season continued with another win this past weekend when they defeated Utah - moving up to the 16th ranked team and competing for a spot in the NCAA playoffs . Sanders has turned the school around from being somewhat of a laughing stock in the NCAA, going 1-11 in 2022 and now sitting at 8-2 and looking like legitimate playoff contenders. Sanders' head coaching resume speaks for itself at this point with an impressive 39-16 in his five years since beginning at Jackson State while greatly improving both schools - helped out by his son, Shedeur Sanders , and Travis Hunter in the last three years. Dak Prescott makes feelings very clear on farcical Dallas Cowboys fake punt Patrick Mahomes lays clear challenge to Kansas City Chiefs after latest defeat This offseason though, both Shedeur and Hunter will leave for the NFL Draft , along with Deion's other son on the Buffaloes roster, Shilo, with the head coaches future still uncertain. Despite the school already declaring their intent to see Deion remain after his two sons leave the school for the draft, the head coach is rumored to be drawing interest from the NFL. With multiple head coaching spots likely to become available this offseason, Mirror U.S. Sports has evaluated the three team's that might consider bringing in the legendary figure. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy keeping his job heading into the 2025 season feels incredibly unlikely at this point, with owner Jerry Jones admitting that he considered making the move after their previous year with the team falling apart in 2024. If Sanders is to make a move to the NFL, doing so with his former team feels the most likely . Sanders has a good relationship with owner Jerry Jones - who is no stranger to bringing back old faces to the franchise. The Cowboys gave quarterback Dak Prescott a hefty contract this past offseason, so they'd be unlikely to bring in Shedeur, but they could target Hunter in the draft. Expect Bill Belichick to be heavily linked to the Cowboys. After benching Daniel Jones ahead of this weekend , the Giants have pretty much made it clear that they will be drafting a quarterback this year - with Sanders likely to be their number one priority. The opportunity to continue to coach his son will undoubtedly one that Deion would love, with the Giants giving him a great opportunity to do so while being in New York City, with the one of the league's most storied franchises. It remains to be seen whether current head coach Brian Daboll will keep his job, after winning coach of the year in 2022 with two brutal years following. The Giants will also likely be seen as an ideal landing spot for Belichick, in what would be a return to the team of which he made his name as their defensive coordinator in the 1980's. Deion Sanders to the Raiders just feels right, doesn't it? The Raiders love going against the grain and making big decisions out of left field, with a new head coach likely to be atop of their agenda with Antonio Pierce struggling. The Raiders are competing in what might be the toughest division in football, led by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs and are in desperate need of a new direction. And when considering that the Raiders are also in need of a quarterback, they could pair Deion with Shedeur and instantly become one of the more exciting teams in the NFL. It might not work out... it probably won't... but at least it would be fun! Want to watch more live sports? Peacock has your favorite sports, shows, and more all in one place.
